It would be really nice to be able to have some variables available when writing a commit template taken from the repository. Like %branch and %author.
Since some teams work with rebase rather than merge, it could be nice to see quickly what branch a commit originally was made from.

Why use % rather than $? Isn't the $ symbol a more universal indicator for a variable?
