Your system information

Steam client version: 1730853027
SteamOS version: 3.6.20
Opted into Steam client beta?: No
Opted into SteamOS beta?: No
Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: Yes

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

STEAM OS is having CUPS now, which is great. However I am not able to add my EPSON L7160 printer properly. Even if I add Epson-L7160_Series-epson-escpr-en.ppd manually I am still facing problem.
Epson-L7160_Series-epson-escpr-en.ppd seems to require "cups filter" epson-escpr-wrapper to be installed.
Would it be possible to include more PPD drivers in Steam OS? Actually I am asking to install/include https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr into your Steam OS build.
I am not sure about other printer vendors, but CUPS in Steam OS recognizes really very, very short list of printers :(

What I see instead is:

"In http://localhost:631/printers/ in FireFox I see an error: Idle - "File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/epson-escpr-wrapper" not available: No such file or directory
There is a pending/Witheld job (print out) in http://localhost:631/printers/.
Please remember that I have added EPSON PPD for my printer, but this is not enough

My kind request is to enhance a little bit STEAM OS of more PPD files and CUPS filters. There are likely many ARCH packages, but for me best fit would be epson-inkjet-printer-escpr package, which should install epson-escpr-wrapper.

Muchas gracias. God bless you. Live long!"

Steps for reproducing this issue:

In desktop mode start menu, System>Manage Printing
Add a printer with custom PPD (take PPD from here https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr - extract SRPM) by clicking: Administration>Add Printer, then Internet Printing Protocol (http), then http://hostname:631/ipp/print, then provide names you wish, then Provide PPD File from SRPM for L7160.

i face the same problem with an Epson printer:

  • with the included and "suggested" Epson driver, only a blank page is "printed".
  • with no mater what (generic or full feature) PPD-file from their official linux packages, the printer doesn't do anything. 😦
...in these Epson packages are some additional libraries which seem to be needed to make use of their PPD-files.
