Deploy to gitlab pages

I'm missing a description how to deploy to gitlab pages.

So I tried to build it myself without luck.

With following structure of the doc folder:

• index.html - copy pasted from a sidebar sample
• Installation.md
• Introduction.md

and following .gitlab-ci.ymlfile, which does nothing than copying the folder content topublic` what the gitlab serves than:

pages:
    stage: deploy
    script:
        - cp -R doc public
    artifacts:
        paths:
            - public
    only:
        - pages

If I serve the folder locally it works
But after that I'm gettitn a deployed page, but links to sub markdowns are showing 404 page.

Do I miss something trivial in the index.html or in the deployment pipeline?
