Hi @unify-x I have an ACH and ACHM also. A few years ago I did what essentially amounts to a range test. It is dated at this point so is not on the Menu Menu but the file is still available. Here is the direct link: https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi/blob/main/home/Performance_Comparison.md This was a managed mode test under difficult conditions. The ACHM very slightly showed better numbers than the ACH but both performed very well and far better than anything else that I had available to test. I see that your concern is with monitor mode so if you could give me some more details of what you did for the monitor mode test, I can check here and post results as I have time. If you could give me a checklist to follow that would be great. FYI: A new standards compliant driver for the ACH just finished going into kernel 6.14. The repo where we worked on the driver is available for you to use if you are using a kernel prior to 6.14 (which you probably are since it has not been released yet): https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw88 The driver needs more testing. |

yes, I saw your rangetest, that's why I am confused. my wavemon screenshot are in managed mode. I will do a rangetest with three walls in-between to see, if something changes. |

Okay. I thought your results were just monitor mode.
It is possible. It is very hard to get 100% perfect product with electronics so it is possible there is a manufacturing problem. I'll be glad to try to duplicate something for you. After this issue is resolved, if I could get you to put the ACH through its paces in monitor mode, I would appreciate a report. I'm looking at adding it to The Plug and Play List soon as kernel 6.14 starts becoming available. I do like multiple reports before I add or remove things. |

tell me exactly what you need and how to do it and I am happy to report everything you need. just to inform you, my ACH is the new version with usb type-c |

Mine is the old style but it should not matter. Basically, put the ACH though the basics: Entering and exiting monitor mode. I have a script to help get into monitor mode so if you want to add it and its docs into your testing, please do. I need to do some work on that stuff anyway. |

Something seems to be wrong with messaging here. None of your recent messages are showing up here in github. I am getting some in email but the formatting is not great on some.
This does not surprise me. I once said to myself that if I needed to to get a wifi signal from the moon, the ACHM would be the adapter to use. There was another follow on test to the earlier performance test that you saw. I did not document it. What I did was continue finding locations that were more difficult. I finally found a location where no other adapter, including the ACH, could maintain a signal... however, the ACHM could. So I declared that the ACHM is the fastest adapter that I own... ha ha. My theory as to why you saw poor readings earlier when you were close to the AP is that the antenna on the ACHM is actually so sensitive that the signal from such a close range causes problems. |

yeah, sorry. I deleted the message, because it was false. Later this day, I will make all the tests, that you are asking for. I did it yesterday, but had the drivers from aircrack-ng instead of the new rt88 from you. tell me how to post them, better as screenshots, or just text? another thing that I saw was a test between the old ACH and the new ACH. The new one has a better range than the old one, but I don't know how much better. The guy is flying RC, like a small plane to make range tests at 5 GHz and put them to the test and the new one performed better. So maybe it's time for you, to try the new ACH to compare it to the ACHM? one thing that I will try as well, is to use a different usb-cable, just in case it doesn't deliver the amount of power that the adapter needs. |

Okay, you confused me by deleting the messages.
This is very different than what I have seen over the years. My experience is that on both bands, the ACHM will show better range than the ACH. It can vary from a little to a lot depending on the conditions of the test. The ACH is a very good adapter. Well, both are.
We can start doing tests that are specific to band 2, 5 GHz but let me suggest we not work 2 things are the same time. How about we work monitor mode on the ACH with the new rtw88 driver?
Text is fine. Put a ``` above and below any lists so keep the readability good. This is markdown.
That is something to try but first let's do the testing with the ACH. |

Good stuff. Thanks. Here is some feedback In the command prior to the below,
Is channel 100 a DFS channel in your country?
Give me a chance to setup and work the same commands you were using to see what I get. We can compare notes. |

Okay. The only way for me to test a DFS channel is to have one of my APs on a DFS channel and nobody else uses DFS channels in my area. Do you see APs on DFS channels? Injection is looking good here with my ACH and rtw88:
I'll test injection more soon.
txpower does seem to be sticky. We need to come up with a very simple checklist with specific commands for the main dev to follow so he can see what we are seeing. Do you want to work on that? I'll test deauth soon. Did you say that you had problems with my I am somewhat concerned that both bans showed txpower at 20 in both bands in your tests. Is that normal? |

Did you say that you had problems with my start-mon.sh script? I can help you get started with it. It greatly speeds things up and you don't have to reboot as it does not kill the problem threads, it simply stops them and then restarts them when you tell it to. If fact, it will allow you to stay connected to the internet with one interface while you do monitor mode things with another. yes please help me out with that. been happy to help you out with any tests you need/want until Tuesday. I will be on holiday for 3 weeks and will be back to help further. I am somewhat concerned that both bans showed txpower at 20 in both bands in your tests. Is that normal? yes, it depends on the channel. ┌──(janni㉿ROG)-[~] |

the strange thing is, that it setting country DE: DFS-ETSI but I am in country CH that has different TX-power settings than DE. [ 1613.361893] wlan0: send auth to a4:ce:da:b9:a2:00 (try 1/3) |

another strange thing is, how can a wifi adapter report signal reception in the + range? I put my phone into AP mode and set it in front of my laptop and the two wifi adapters in 2.4 and 5GHz. In both situations the ACH is showing SIGNAL : ACH +10 dBm At 5GHz for me it looks like a false reporting of the ACH. |

is there a way to deinstall the mt7610u driver and to try a different one? I see that my router sets the DFS-ETSI and allows 26 dBm output, so the ACH has the tx-power at 26 dBm, but the ACHM sits at 19 dBm |

I tried your method to set the country code to CH and everything worked like it should, but wavemon still shows DE instead of CH. I don't know, what has priority, what the router reports to the wifi adapter, or I don't know, from where it sets DE. another strange thing is that ACH and ACHM set completely different TX rates and completely different from what iw list is listing for the channels. any ideas? I am taking my laptop with me on my holidays, so if you want me to do some more tests, let me know, how to use your script and I will happily report what you need. |

Here is a link into the Linux Wireless docs: https://wireless.docs.kernel.org/en/latest/en/developers/regulatory/processing_rules.html There is a lot there but I put you into an area that might help explain some things. If you have an AP/Router that is old or has a bug or two, it can cause what you are seeing. Maybe the reading will help. |

so I rechecked in all possible cases, how strong the range of the two wifi adapters is and the ACH-C is definitely stronger than the ACHM. The ACH-C reports a way stronger signal and my router reports a stronger signal from the ACH against the ACHM. |

I want to share my experience about thease two wifi adapters.
First of all, both are labeled as ULTRA-Range. So I bought both because I thought its good to have two comparable strong adapters with different chipsets.
Yesterday I made a rangetest, or signalstrength-test at 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz between the ACHM and the ACH-C and my internal intel AX201 of my laptop and was surprized, how bad the ACHM performed at 5 GHz.
Setup was Laptop distance to router 2.5 meters and ACHM and ACH-C about 2 meters.
OS: Kali Linux
measurements with wavemon:
2.4 GHz
AX201: -35 dBm
ACHM: -20 dBm
ACH-C: -15 dBm
5 GHz
AX201: -43 dBm
ACHM: -43 dBm
ACH-C: -17 dBm
my router is showing a strong RSSI from both adapters that is around -30 dBm.
putting the ACHM and ACH-C into monitor mode, shows a extreme difference in how many networks are in range and how strong the signal is.
can somebody confirm, that the ACHM is so bad at 5 GHz? or do I have a faulty device?
I updated the Firmware of the Mediatek just to be sure, its not outdated, but nothing changed.
I attach the screenshots, so you can check on them
