It seems it's not possible to delete individual news, one can delete a RSS channel totally but not delete already read or unwanted news to keep only those that we want to keep for future readings.
What do you think about adding an option to delete read/unwanted RSS items individually as we can do on desktop RSS clients like QuiteRSS or Akregator? There you can delete news individually whenever you want so you don't end with thousands of news of which you may probably be interested to keep less than 10%. I think that NC News reader should allow this too.

Regards.

Read items are already automatically deleted for you via cronjob.

That's better than nothing, but not all the news you read you want them to be deleted. Sometimes you want to share them later, or re-read, or, in the case of blogposts, sometimes you want to copy them for quotating, using them for some writting or paper, or many other scenarios. Of course you can always mark them as unread, but then they will show up again in your unread news category; or mark them as favorites, but then you would end with hundreds of favorites, when in fact you'd rather keep really favorite feeds and just "interesting" feeds separate. And to do that I think it should be the user who chooses what to do, not anything automatic.

Basides, are those read notes really deleted or just hidden? I'm asking this because I thought that read feeds just didn't show up in most RSS clients because most of them are configured to show only unread feeds by default, but don't really delete the already read ones. You say that NC News app does really delete them, so if I use a different device or client those feeds I have already read, say, on my phone won't be shown on my tablet?

By default we keep a certain number of read feeds which you can of course configure (check the readme). You can always star items as well to prevent them from being deleted. Item stati are synced so if you don't sync that you've read them, then they stay unread.

Some users want to distinguish between archived and starred items: this is supposed to be implemented by some other app which implements something like pocket.
