If you still want to give admin-essentials a spin, just install chef-solo and use the standalone deploy script:
sudo apt-get install curl git lsb-release chef
bash < <( curl -sL https://raw.github.com/sometimesfood/chef-admin-essentials/master/contrib/standalone-deploy.sh )
