As a user with disabilities, I want to be able to access the website so that I can use it.

AC:
Comply with Section 508 guidlines. For example:

  • Alternate text to describe images and links
  • ARIA landmarks for programmatic access to sections of the page
  • Color contrast (Don’t rely on color—use indicators or “required”)
  • Tab order (sensible order, clear focus indicator, all controls are reachable, offscreen should not be focusable)
  • Metrics – paragraph explaining visualization/chart rather than describing each data point
  • Accessible forms—appropriately structured
  • Traverse the page with a screen reader, custom controls work with a screen reader
  • Other example listed on usa.gov
