Official file extension?

I'm wondering if there is an official file extension for this spec. I saw there is a single example in https://github.com/WICG/import-maps#installation that seems to imply that .importmap is the file extension. Is that the case?

I'm not sure what it means for a file extension to be "official". But, that's the one I would use in my projects, and so, it's the one I put in the example!

Presumably the one we'd register with IANA along with the MIME type.
