I could break it apart into individual pull-requests, but thought you might be okay with merging it as is more or less, and then refining it where needed?

… new with_cwd - don't use the non-threadsafe and session-dependent .env() context manager - sync popen support for 'env' param in all machine impls: local/ssh/paramiko - add .with_cwd() to complement .with_env()

this is particularly important for remote machines, where this lookup is very costly

remove broken support for no-decoding
