NAR-60 Implements cache handler name aliasing to enable mapping of multiple cacheHandler names to a single handler instance. When the value for a configured cache handler is in the keys of cacheHandlers, then it will be assumed to be an alias, otherwise it will be treated as a file path to the cache handler implementation. All aliased cache handlers are resolved to a single cache handler instance. default and remote aliases work without being in the cacheHandlers configuration as these are always present by default.

// next.config.js

module.exports = {
  experimental: {
    cacheHandlers: {
      "default": "indirect",
      "indirect": "remote",
      "remote": require.resolve(...),
    }
  }
}

In the example configuration above all cache handlers map to the custom cache handler implementation specified as remote. The following use cache directives all map to the remote cache handler.

"use cache"
"use cache: default"
"use cache: indirect"
"use cache: remote"
